It’s no surprise to hear that everyone loves chocolate, but it turns out that no one loves chocolate as much as Britain! In comparison to the rest of Europe, British residents have consumed a whopping average of 8.4kg of chocolate in the past year!
This sounds like a lot, and it is! However, we are not the only people to be consuming more chocolate at an increasing rate. Switzerland comes in second with 8.3kg and Germany with 82kg, Russian with 6.8kg and Austria at 5.4kg.
The world’s consumption has increased and the Global New Product Database (GNPD) have found that in the past year for example, Easter chocolate consumption has actually risen by 23%.
Seasonal chocolate is very popular, with new products and exciting new flavours to try. Germany and the US were leading in this field, with their holiday themed promotions. It’s always fun to look forward to special editions of our favourite chocolates, from our favourite brands. With Christmas coming up in a few months, we can rely on lots of new products to try!
Of course indulging in a bit of chocolate doesn’t necessarily need an excuse, or a special occasion, it does require a fair amount of self control to stop yourself from eating the whole box!
Bite size chocolate portions, and portion control has been coming into effect over the past few years and has become more popular and convenient. The sales of these bite sized chocolates have increased by 50% in the last 5 years!
